A pattern for a handy Japanese-style tote or clutch bag. It is lined with a drawstring top that folds down into itself to become a zippered clutch, hence kakurenbo (which means "hide & seek"). Short handles disappear into the folded clutch, or the tote can be made with detachable shoulder straps.
This is an elegant design for dojo or travel. One customer reports that it makes a wonderful silk evening bag. I forgot to ask, but perhaps the party dress and shoes travelled to the office with her in its tote-bag form. Pattern includes instructions for sashiko stitching and applique.
